Summer Fun (finally!)

Another eventful week on the hectic summer race calendar.

sunderland4Congratulations to all the men who ran the Sunderland 5k (Harry Coates, Simon Lyon, Matt Darbyshire, Joseph Hoben, Jack Armstrong, Dave Hall, Alan Heslington and Tony Maddocks). Our first man was the ever awesome Harry Coates (please don’t go!) who completed the fast course in 16.08.

It’s a shame there were no women there to fly the green and gold flag. In my defence I made it as far as the car park before realising I had missed the start of the women’s race (I’m still suffering from severe baby brain, ok I know it’s 18 months on but…)

We did have another cracking turnout at the LGBT 5K though. Always a highlight (particularly the goody bags!) 21 Wallsend Harriers graced the Town Moor for the fab 5k. Congratulations to all, particularly our first man Jack Armstrong (17.59) and first female Sarah Robson (20.19).

Don’t forget the next Summer Grand Prix at the Rising Sun is on Tuesday (26th July). And it’s still all to play for!

Sunderland 5k – Wednesday 13th July (Summer Grand Prix Race)

Don’t forget the super fast 5k at Sunderland takes place tomorrow Wednesday 13th July. It’s a great PB course as it’s really flat. It always gets a great turn out and has a really good atmosphere.

It is also one of the Summer Grand Prix races and it’s still all to play for. You have to run at least 8 out of the 11 races over the season don’t forget so don’t miss out on potential prizes and get yourself down there.

Online entries are closed but you should still be able to sign up on the night.

Full details on the event here.

Say Farewell to a true Wallsend legend – George Atkinson

The funeral of George Atkinson, a much-loved former Wallsend Harrier, is on Monday 18th July at the Crematorium on West Road in Newcastle at 3.00pm.
No particular dress code, just whatever you are comfortable in.

From his son Colin:

“You will quickly find out during the service that this is not going to be a day of commiserating but an uplifting day to celebrate everything about my Dad.
Afterwards we are going to the British Legion Club in Forest Hall from 4.15pm to have drinks and toast the main man.
We appreciate that not all of you may be able to attend due to work commitments, holidays etc but you are more than welcome simply to pop in for a drink whenever suits.”

Go go Green and Golds!
