Clive Cookson 10k Race Report

clivecooksonIt was muggy, there was a long hill and I’d never attempted it before. In fact, I worked out it had been almost three years since I had run a 10k race. It used to be my best distance but since embarking upon my nearby parkrun I’ve been all about the 5k. The thought of running just over six miles hard was quite daunting.

Luckily I had my Green and Gold contingent by my side (and scattered about the course supporting). A healthy turn out of 22 Wallsend Harriers made their way to the start line.

York Track and Field Report

track8And here we go again. It was time for the return of Blyth and Wallsend to the northern track and field league; this time bigger and better than ever. In case you somehow missed the news, we were champions of division 3E last season, victors, the biggest fish in our little pond.

We achieved what had not been done in the club’s athletics history and secured promotion to division 2E of the league. So this year we find ourselves facing off against some serious competition.

Joseph Hoben gets the Summer Grand Prix off to a flyer!

Joe was clearly the victor ahead of Andy Clark, both guys running well to get back to their best. Kayleigh Dunn took 3rd place.

Fastest on the night Simon Lyon with a 10:52, beating Mat Darbyshire by 5 seconds. Erin Prior and Emily James both ran the course in 13:47 to take the fastest female category. Well Done all.

Next race is the 5km summer Grand Prix on Tuesday 24th May, with a new course and handicap points scoring system. We will confirm location to meet and start time soon.
