Go go Green and Golds!
It’s been another busy couple of weeks for us Green and Golds during the so-called Summer season.
From our tenacious team juniors at Monkton Stadium to Mark Summers and his continuing 2016 half marathon challenge. This month he has completed the arduous Hadrian’s Wall (along with Julie Williams) and Coquet Half Marathon. Seven down five to go!
Last week the small but perfectly small ladies team of Dréano-Thwaite, Kayleigh Dunn and Emily James took on the scenic but strenuous Anita Nott 5k at Jesmond Dene. It’s a women’s only race in memory of the inspirational Heaton Harrier and always a great atmosphere. It’s a shame we didn’t get a better turn out given we won first ladies team a couple of years back. It would be good to see us getting back on track for next year.
The weekend saw plenty of action with the Gateshead 10k and third track and field event of the season.
After our glorious promotion last year it was always going to be a tough season at the track in 2016 so I feel everyone who turned out and came out of their comfort zone to get some points for the team deserves a mention:
For the boys it was: Rob McDonald, Cameron Moore, Denver Stretesky, Dan Smith, Simon Lyon, Craig Harmon, Matt Darbyshire, Jon French, Joseph Woods, Daniel Njai, Calum Storey, Paul Corrigan, Ralph Dickinson, Mick Day, Peter Skirrow.
And the ladies: Alice Dungworth, Abbi Willis, Chloe Barrass, Sarah Robson, Michelle Heron, Emily James, Gemma Harmon, Gwen Forster, Julie Williams, Christine Stretesky.
We’ve had plenty of rallying calls but people, we really do need you. The more athletes we have the more chance we have of success and it means people aren’t trying to cover multiple events with barely a breath in between. The next and last meet of the season is at Middlesbrough on Saturday 6th August. Let’s finish it in style and turn out a sea of Green and Golds!!!
Results from Morpeth here (women) and here (men).
Meanwhile our juniors teamed up with Gosforth and competed at Monkton to take third place in the NEYDL division two. Full results here.
Fantastic effort George Wilson, Josh Oats, Willem Harrison, Louie Margison, Daniel Broderick, Mark Alan Walker, Samuel Train, Thomas Spreadbury, Wesley Croom, Kieron Thomas Mutch, Gautum Chauham, Rachel Rees, Carys Purves, Briony Livermore, Ellen Williams, Stephen Bennison, Geordie Cheetham, Thomas Ferguson, Ted Ramsay, Osh Hegarty, Abigail Bedford, Rebecca Wren, Elena Walker, Abigail Nicholson, Mason Stretesky, Patrick Donald, Joseph Ramshaw, Oli Aird, Rhian Purves, Sophie Jane Mutch, Connie Nicholson, Faye Lancaster, Erin Pior.
Hope I haven’t missed anyone!
And last but by no means least well done to Andy Wigmore and Tony Maddocks took part in Jesmond Joggers’ 10th Anniversary run. Andy finished 5th and was the first guest runner home. Tony finished 25th and beat his time from last year’s event.
