Top Tim Nics the win! And speedy Sarah Robson, steals the glory!
Tim Nicholson takes home the Men’s Club Championships trophy for the first time posting a brilliant run of 35:11 around the 6-mile course. Tim held off strong challenges from Jack Armstrong, and the ever-improving Andy Wigmore. Sarah also takes home the club honours for the first time posting an excellent time of 21:13 around the 3.35 mile ladies route. Matty Summers posted the only time for the u16 with a 22:54.
However, our stars of the night were the juniors running the 1 mile distance, all 6 athletes ran under 7:29 with the fastest on the night Briony Livermore with a 5:57, 5 seconds ahead of Tom Ferguson and 14 seconds ahead of 3rd placed Ellen Williams. Well done all of you!
There is only the one race left to score points for the Summer Grand Prix, and it’s the closest series since Dave Collinson and Neil Armstrong took joint honours at the Winter Grand prix series 2013-14. With Andy Wigmore scoring 29 points at Morpeth and 14 more points over Joseph Hoben at the Club championships, it means that they are tied on 303 points heading into the final race at the Tynedale 10-miler. However, its not as simple as whoever scores the most points win, as the best 8 of 11 races counts, Joe effectively has a 12 point advantage. Meaning if Joe scores 39 points or more, he will win regardless of how many Andy scores. Andy can win if he scores more than 5 points and 13 points more than Joe. If Andy scores 16 points or less and Joe scores 4 or less they will tie the series, they will also tie if Andy scores 12 more than Joe. Depending on how fast they run, 12 points equates to 44 seconds, so it’s close!!! That took some working out! Good luck guys. Emily James holds on to 3rd place with 230 points, however, anyone down to seventh can finish on the podium.
Good luck to those running Tynedale, I will get your handicap times out ASAP.
Many thanks yet again to Michael Day, Jackie Garnett and Kevin Payne for officiating and mastering the ceremonies 🙂
