10 Years of the Toby
They did it again! A hardy group of inspirational individuals showed true Wallsend Harrier team spirit as they conquered the grueling, annual Toby charity run -for the tenth time!
Ten years on our gallant gang of Green and Golds are still going strong, and raising shed loads of cash for St. Oswald’s Hospice. This year they covered 188 miles over three days, along Route 72 cycle path through Hexham, Haltwhistle, Brampton, and Carlisle to Bowness-on-Solway before heading back to Tynemouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Toby has raised £30,000 over a decade and there’s still time to donate. Just visit one of the runner’s pages via the Wallsend Harriers JustGiving site and reward their sterling efforts.
A huge thank- you to everyone who helped organise and support and to our wonderful, gorgeous, tenacious runners:
Kev, Julie and Dave Collinson, Julie Williams, Anna French, Sarah Graham, Simon Lyon, Sarah Robson, Christine Stretesky, Donna Thompson, Dave Hall, Alan Heslington, Barry, Sharron Myers, Neil Armstrong, Darren Noble, Brian Hetherington (day three) Ruth Marshall (on bike) and Bill (in the bus).
Kev is already planning next year’s mammoth adventure – the Coast and Castles route. If you haven’t taken part yet it really is a fantastic experience. It’s normally the third weekend in August so get it in your diaries now!
From our chair, Bill:
“So proud of all those Wallsend Harriers who completed this year’s charity ‘Toby’ in aid of St Oswalds Hospice.
You have given your all over the three days and I take my hat off to you!
Thanks too to the support team and to those who organised the trip. And of course to those members who joined in for the last miles to Tynemouth. Thank you all! I am sure St Oswalds will be extremely grateful for the much needed funds raised by your efforts.
Well done all!”
