365 Juniors at Indoor Standards competition
We had a fantastic show from Wallsend Harriers 365 Junior group at the first indoor meet of the season, hosted by Gateshead Harriers.
They have been working hard all year and this was evident in their performances.
For Alex Walker this was his first ever indoor competition and his first foray into the u13 age group. He put in a brilliant performance in the 60m sprint, maintaining his form throughout and achieving a fantastic time of 9.41. Alex was getting into his stride at the long jump with a positive first jump of 3 metres 11, unfortunately on his second jump he hurt his leg and was unable to finish.
Also in the u13 category we had Hannah Walker doing the 60m sprint. Another brilliant performance of 9.69s. Hannah showed awesome technique with much more to come this season. In the u15s Jack Mallam entered the 60m sprint and long jump. Again, sprint training is definitely paying off, it was another technically brilliant sprint and without spikes he got 10.84s, his first time out in this age category. He was disappointed with his long jump, but from a coaches point of view this early in the season he did brilliantly with only one foul jump, a consistent run up and achieving height on take off. Jack achieved a fantastic 3m25.
A special mention to Alfie Ward who achieved 8.54s in the sprint, 10.42s in the hurdles and 4m37 in the long jump.
This was their first event since Margaret passed away. Clearly missed but providing much inspiration for our future stars.
