Rest In Peace
It is with great sadness that we have recently heard of the passing of Dave Williams.
Dave was a club member for over 20 years, joining in the early 1980s.
He was a committee member and also supported our junior members on club training nights.
We would like to pass on our heart-felt condolences and thoughts to his family.
Below is a tribute from one of Dave’s former clubmates, Ian MacDougall.
The fact Dave was with the club for 20 years should say a lot – one of that great list of Green and Gold members who were always there yet, certainly in Dave’s case, happy to stay in the background and out of the limelight. Memory fails me of the details but he was a valued committee member for some time as well.
For a club like Wallsend people like Dave were (and still are) absolutely priceless.
Although Dave would never have called himself a coach he can take great credit for the simple act of encouraging the young kids and keeping their enthusiasm on cold wet November nights – not an easy job with 11 year olds believe me – there was no glamour or glory seeking in his Tuesday and Thursday night’s endeavours.
I wonder how many are still in love with running thanks to the simple encouragement from Dave who gave to the Green and Gold that most precious commodity – his time.
I will remember him fondly.
Rest in peace.
My son Andrew Parker used to run in Dave’s group..he started at the tender age of 10. Dave was very patient with them all and some Tuesdays and Thursdays I used to go out running with them
Happy days and find memories of Dave. A lovely man
