Little legs strike back! π€
Our first WGP of 2022 got off to a flying start in near perfect running conditions.
If this is a sign of things to come for the year ahead, then the Green and Gold will be a force to be reckoned with!
33 runners took to our Cobalt course – with bold claims being made by several members that this was their night, there wasn’t even a bad word to be said around handicaps either?!
Confidence filled the air as the start line beckoned. Our juniors were out in force with 3 of them being debutants on our WGP route. A world record holding guest with their sights set on chasing down some of our top guns, the scene was set.
28 minutes or so after the first runner set off, our runners began to cross the finish line. 22 of whom came in under their predicted time, clearly our winter training has been paying off!
Our podium looked like this;
π₯ 28:04 Karl Burton
π₯ 28:15 Gethin Hegarty
π₯ 28:16 Lily Robson
Superb running from Karl, who was agonisingly close to a sub 20 actual time, finishing in 20:04. Our Juniors then dominated with Gethin having a superb WGP debut, followed closely by Lily – smashing her PB in the process.
The junior takeover didn’t stop there – Joseph Duthie-Brown was 4th in 28:57 overall, which was an amazing actual time of 19:17! Antonia Strettle was 5th in 28:58 and Megan Pattinson also running a PB of 21:08, finishing 7th in 29:08 overall. Mia Cleathero also dropped a PB in 22:16.
The future of our club is looking exceptional!
Our seniors really need to up their game, although having said that, there were PBs aplenty for Ian Gowing, Phil Allen, the age defying Emily James, Phil Allen and Reece Calvert to name a few.
Our lightening lady on the night was young Lily Robson in 20:36.
Our fastest fella was Tom Sursham, once again, in 16:51.

Thank you to all our pacers, chaperones and marshals. An exceptional job from you all (apart from Iain Hall, as he didn’t quite get the sub 20 he promised Karl π).
See you at the next one in March ππ
