Running up that hill!
Yes we’re all looking happy here, but that’s because we’ve finished the epic mountain climb that is the annual Weetslade Relays! Ok, we have a right grumble about it, but with a three-year Covid related break, that mountain had become smaller and smaller in our memories (and barely worth a mention to our newbies). And so we came out in our droves for the only event of the year where the ladies and men can team up.
The dreaded hill was not the only challenge we had to contend with during the gruelling but scenic 2.65 mile leg around Weetslade Country Park. Summer decided to finally pay us a visit and the sun was out in full force. But there was plenty of bants and support to keep smiles on our faces and I’m sure everyone would agree it was a cracking night.
Thanks to Claremont Road Runners for a brilliantly organised event as usual. It’s no wonder it has grown in popularity. With around 100 clubs now taking part, our top spot of 12th team was very respectable I’m sure you’ll agree.
Our first team was:
Jimmy Hill, Alex Ross (fastest Wallsend female), Mark Covell.
The rest of our awesome mixed bunches were:
Martin Crozier (fastest Wallsend male), Kirsty Fearn, James Duthie
Andy Wigmore, Emily James, Tim Nicholson
Dan Tobin and father/daughter duo Meghan and Lee Pattinson
Laureen Brown, Leanne Smith-Lewis, Adam Hamilton
Ian Gowing, Laura Stout, Chrystal Skeldon
Karl Burton, Myra Robson, Kerry Spencer.
Well done to everyone who took part and a massive thank-you to all our supporters. Special mention to King Kev for his administrative support on the night.
