Mad, marvellous March!
Well March was indeed mad but also a bit bloomin’ marvellous for the mighty Green and Golds!
There were individual triumphs for the likes of our lovable ‘mountain goat’ Harry Coates who only went and won a gold medal for team North East at the Inter-County X-Country Championships. And the birthday boy himself – big Dave C – was 5th supervet at SunCityTri Duathlon.
On the team front we did ourselves proud and pulled together for a super sunshine day at Elswick Relays and went out in style at Wrekenton for the end of the x-country season.
Huge congratulations to Erin Prior who won her respected race and an impressive sprint finish from man of the moment Harry Coates to win the overall men’s competition. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep the men up but congratulations to a tenacious women’s team who battled through all winds and weathers to climb from eighth place to fourth. Full results here.
Everyone competing in x-country gave it their all. Let’s go for promotion next season. You don’t have to be a seasoned x-country to do your bit. Every runner, no matter what age or ability, counts. The mud just makes for more fun and the camaraderie and cake is second to none so let’s go for it in 16/17, climb to the top for the girls and take the boys back up the league table!
To top it all off there was a lot of ‘eggcitement’ at the North Tyneside 10k, now an Easter Sunday tradition. Special mention to Simon Lyon and Sarah Robson who were our first male and female storming it home to St. Mary’s Lighthouse. Full results here.
We even had a Wallsend wedding! Massive congratulations to our gorgeous Gary and Leanne – now Mr & Mrs Lewis/Ironman! A proper Green and Gold love story and we are all so, so happy for you both.
Finally, a huge thanks to everyone who has supported Wallsend throughout the season. Let’s smash it at the track and field in the summer months and turn out in force at the region’s races. Check the race calendar on the website and sign up for as many as you can.
