On the 10th day of Christmas my captain gave to me the nominees for *Most Improved Athlete* of the year!
Lasses: Amy Gibson, Eleanor Garbutt, Michelle Mussett.
Lads: Adam Hamilton, Jimmy Hill, Alex Sursham
Now just because you’re nominated doesn’t mean you can stop trying! You can still get nominated next year too. Top work from all six!
This year we are hosting at the Townhouse in Whitley Bay (6.30ish start!). It’s £4.00 entry and two raffle strips – please make your payment to the WHAC Club Bank Account before the evening. Additional raffle strips can be purchased with all funds going back to the club. There will be some great prizes available!
Here are our first nominations for Best Newcomer!
A hardy bunch of Wallsend Harrier cyclists braved the gruelling 160+ miles of the Sandstone Way for this year’s Toby, raising money for St Oswald’s Hospice.
There is still time to donate so please do if you can. We support St Oswald’s every year. It is a charity which means a lot to our club.
This year’s challenge, which took place between the 18th to 20th August, was not for the faint hearted. Usually a route for mountain bikers, this challenging route goes from one end of Northumberland to the other, traversing an ever-changing landscape which is rich in history, geology and iconic scenery. They went on road, off road, through fields, up hills, down hills, through fords and animals galore!
The awesome crew were Dave C, Kev, Paul S, Rob S, Barry, Darryl, Dave Hughes, Alan Durney, Mick S, and Fitz. Well done lads! An amazing achievement. We are all very proud of you.
It is with great sadness that Wallsend Harriers share the news that life-time member Tommy Morgan has passed. Tommy was a member of the club for over 30 years, initially coaching our younger athletes along with the late Margaret Watson. Tommy was greatly respected by his athletes and really inspired our athletes for many years.
Tommy saw that we needed officials across the North East and took on a number of roles. He officiated at the very highest level but always came back to his beloved Wallsend to support grass roots athletics.
Tommy will be warmly remembered for his contributions to the club and North East athletics. RIP Tommy.
